The National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a flash flood watch from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night for 44 counties, including Rockdale and Newton.
The NWS predicts rainfall of 1 to 3 inches across the watch area, with 3 to 5 inches in areas especially across the north Georgia mountains.
"Soils remian saturated from widespread heavy rain across the region last weekend. Thus any rain that develops will likely all run off into creeks and streams, leading to rapid rises," the warning read. "This event is not expected to be as widespread or significant as last weekend, but localized areas, especially across the mountains, will likely experience flash flooding."
President Obama issued a federal disaster declaration at least four counties out of the 17 that Governor Sonny Perdue declared in a state of emergency: Cobb, Paulding, Douglas and Cherokee. This means individuals in those counties will be eligible for federal aid in temporary housing reimbursement temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses.
Stephens, Carroll, Chattooga counties also received federal disaster declarations on Friday.
