A little rain won’t do much to dampen the spirits of the folks of Covington. The annual Independence in the Park celebration may have been postponed until Saturday because of inclement weather, but that doesn’t mean Covington won’t put on a fantastic show two days later. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with face painting, inflatables (called jumpies, by me and mine), vendors who will be selling all sorts of things and of course, tasty food. Then at 8:30 p.m. Bo Bice, the 2005 runner-up of “American Idol” will be performing. At dark, get ready for a fantastic display of fireworks to light up the night sky. The square will be busy, so expect lines and for space to be crowded, but it’s totally worth it. Park a couple blocks away and walk, then do what I do – find a secluded spot OFF the square to sit and watch the fireworks. For me, it’s my backyard, but you have to bring presents to use my yard. I also accept gift cards.
