Ethics board complaint against Nesbitt filed

IN BRIEF: Former Republican Post I Commission candidate Sam Smiley filed an Aug. 9 state ethics board complaint against current Post I Commissioner and Democratic candidate Oz Nesbitt regarding a June 7 campaign fundraising event for Nesbitt hosted by insurance broker Resurgens Risk Management that was not listed as an in-kind contribution on Nesbitt's campaign finance reports (see PDFs of complaint above). Resurgens was recently chosen for a $60,000 a year contract as the county's insurance broker and consultant in a 2-1 vote, after questions were raised regarding the fundraising event for Nesbitt and the fact the Chief of Staff's son had previously worked at the company. Contributions valued at $101 or more is required to be listed on the campaign finance reports.

Nesbitt said Monday evening he had not been aware of the filed complaint and declined to comment on it. "I think I've said all I need to say about it," he said.
