With the speed of technological updates, most people have old electronics lying around that are now obsolete. Well, don't throw it away. Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful wants your old electronic junk.
KCRB will hold an elecronics recycling drive on June 11, from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. at 901 Main Street.
The drive is to allow people to safely and easily dispose of electronics and promote recycling within the community. The public is invited to donate electronics regardless of working condition to be dismantled and recycled.
"Instead of throwing it in the trash, the event allows people to bring their electronics in so it can be recycled into future products. We’ve paired up with Atlanta Recycling Solutions. The city of Conyers is helping sponsor this as well as Rockdale County," said KCRB Chair Mike Kessler.
He pointed out certain components of electronics, such as the tubes in non-flat screen monitors, have toxic chemicals that can leach out if it sat in a landfill. "Those chemicals go into the ground. When it rains, there’s runoff and you never know where it ends up. If people dump it on the side of the road, you just never know where that water’s going to go," he said.
Items accepted at no charge include computers, laptops, modems, printers, copiers, phones, cell phones, disk drives, microwaves and stereos.
Televisions are the only chargeable item with a fee of $10.
Major appliances such as washer/dryers, refrigerators/freezers and gas powered tools cannot be accepted. (For a broader list, see "Related Content")
Attendees are asked to come in through the Milstead Avenue side and exit from the Main Street side. Volunteers will be available to unload the items from your car, allowing for a "drive through, drop off" experience.
