Eastminster teacher publishes tale of time

Local teacher Jackie Vadney recently published “Pokey’s Promise,” a tale of telling time.

Vadney, a Conyers native and teacher with 18 years experience teaching in the Rockdale County Public School system, George Walton Academy, and currently teaching kindergarten through third at Eastminster School, developed the story while teaching her students about time.

“I started telling the story of ‘Pokey’s Promise’ many years ago while I taught time-telling," she said. "Pokey is the short and slow hour hand and Speedy is the long, and sleek minute hand. Pokey gets upset because he is slow and Speedy, his friend comes up with a solution to how Pokey can be first.”

The story is also about friendship, she said. “The book encourages young students to read Pokey, the hour hand, first and Speedy, the minute hand, secondly. The illustrations are so cute and very expressive that young learners can relate to feeling sorry for a character and feeling proud for a character.”

The book is available at PublishAmerica.com.
