Conyers Police responded to a call of a disturbance and later arrested the suspect, Eljay Thornton Jr., on robbery by force and started the process of securing a warrant on simple battery.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on July 11 the suspect's father called the police after Thornton Jr. was swinging a stick at his cousin and running around the house.

When police arrived Thornton Jr., shirtless, had fled into the woods near the house. According to reports, upon arrival, Thornton Jr.'s father said Eljay Thornton Jr. "had been drinking, and had picked up a stick to hit his cousin, but I grabbed the stick from him." His father then told him he was not going to deal with it and called the police.

A woman at the scene also told police that Thornton Jr. had taken and wrecked her car earlier in the day, which was parked at the residence with a busted windshield and damage to the driver's side of the car, according to police reports.

As the officer searched the woods where Thronton Jr. reportedly fled to, he heard the suspect jump a chain link fence and followed him into a nearby residence. When the officer arrived Thornton Jr. was sitting on the sofa and said "I have a warrant for my arrest from Newton County." Thornton Jr. was then escorted out of the house and into the back of the patrol car with his hands cuffed behind his back.

According to reports, the officer said Thornton Jr. smelled strongly of alcohol.

Sitting in the patrol car, the officer said Thornton Jr. then started swearing at the officers on scene and kicked the window bars of the patrol unit. While Thornton Jr. was in the patrol car, the officer spoke with the victim of the vehicle damage.

According to reports Thornton Jr. slapped the victim and took her keys around 4 p.m. at a Citgo Station on Sigman and Irwin Bridge Rd and drove her 1996 Ford Escort to the house. At the house as she tried to get family members to help get her keys back, Thornton Jr. drove off. After driving to and from the house several times, Thornont came back and said he needed an ambulance.

According to reports, the victim said she noticed her windshield was busted, the front driver's side fender was damaged, the driver's door damage and he kicked a dent on the rear driver's side quarter panel. There were also footprints on the roof windows and doors.

At that point Thornton Jr.'s cousin grabbed the keys from him. Thornton Jr. then grabbed a stick to try and hit his cousin, his dad grabbed the stick and called the police.

Thronton Jr. was booked into Rockdale County jail where state warrants will be secured for robbery and simple battery.
