ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Legendary former University of Georgia head football coach and athletics director Vince Dooley will be inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame.

The University of Georgia says Dooley will be inducted in the hall on July 27, 2012, in Quantico, Va.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/LHazAv) that the Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame honors Marines who have excelled on and off the athletic playing field.

Dooley, a former Marine captain, was head football coach at UGA from 1963-1988 and director of athletics from 1979-2004. He guided Georgia to the 1980 national championship and six SEC championships, and took his teams to 20 bowl games.
