Adam Hood allowed just three hits and zero unearned runs in 4 2/3 innings but Salem couldn't finish it, falling 5-2 to Apalachee on Friday night.
The Salem Seminoles had trouble driving in base runners, and keeping it in their gloves on defense in their seventh straight loss.
"We had our chances in this game stranding a lot of runners," Salem coach Chad Kitchens said. "We also made a lot of defensive mistakes that extended innings and gave them free runs."
Garrett Needham had two hits and one RBI and Josh Webster hit a double for Salem.
"Adam Hood was outstanding again on the mound going into the fifth inning allowing only three hits and zero earned runs," Kitchens said. "He deserved a better fate." Salem will play at Cedar Shoals Monday at 5:55 p.m. "We are so close...we are right there," Kitchens said. "Our hurdles still to climb are coming through during the game with runners in scoring position and making playes instead fo mistakes on defense. Once we start doing that we will be successful."
