Rockdale County deputies found remains in the woods of a man they believe is a Conyers man reported missing for the last six months.

Steve Edward Loner, 55, had gone missing after a family fight in July where he allegedly stabbed his nephew in the shoulder. Loner was wanted for aggravated assault.

"We are still waiting on an official identification through the crime lab," said Rockdale County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jodi Shupe, although she said nvestigators suspect it to be Loner.

The body was found on Wednesday in the woods near Jimi Lane, off of Rockbridge Road.

According to the missing persons report, Loner had allegedly left the area on the night of the incident with a rope in his hand, threatening suicide.

Deputies had set up a search of the area two days after the incident and found nothing.

"Investigators re-interviewed (family members) and obtained further information to convince them they needed to do a more through search before closing out the case," said Shupe.

K9 search and rescue teams from Georgia Piedmont K9, which were specially trained to detect deceased persons, were called in to search the wooded area near Jimi Lane.

They reportedly found the remains with a cell phone, clothes and white shoes nearby and a rope in a tree.
