Cross country teams ready for local event

Heritage, Salem and Rockdale’s cross-country programs will hit the course today at the local Aubrae Gunderson Invitational, hosted by Heritage at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers.

The event will feature over 60 regional schools, including Covington rival Newton High, in one of the biggest meets of the season.

The course will feature a 5k on all-natural terrtain, including grass and dirt trails and will feature high school varstisty, junior varsity and middle school races.

The high school men’s and women’s varsity meets will be staggered into three different races, with the first race set to begin at 8 a.m. and the final varsity race beginning at 10:05 a.m. Junior varsity and middle school races will follow.

Last season, Athens Academy, Winder-Barrow and Flowery Branch earned team titles in the men’s race, while Alexander, Winder-Barrow and Westminster finished at the top for the three women’s races.
