Dear Editor: Constitution Week is an American observance to commemorate the adoption of the United States Constitution. The observance runs annually from Sept. 17 to Sept. 23. It was officially enacted on Aug. 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower from a congressional resolution petitioned by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR is a patriotic organization that encourages education and historic preservation in communities across America. The purpose of the observance week is to promote study and recognition of the Constitution which was originally adopted by the American Congress of the Confederation on Sept. 17, 1787.

The Col. John McIntosh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution urges each citizen of Rockdale County to observe this anniversary week by learning more about the document that laid the groundwork for our democracy. Fly our nation's flag at your home or workplace. In addition, since this is an election year, take the time to research the candidates running for office so that your choice will count in our community, our state and in our nation.
