Clothes Closet to re-open in September

Rockdale's primary clothes closet program will re-open in September, managed and operated by Rockdale Emergency Relief in partnership with Growing Discoveries Ministries, at a new location in Conyers.

The new Clothes Closet will be located at 1018 Green Street and will serve the entire community of Rockdale County.  Growing Discoveries Ministries will provide volunteer and program support for the new Clothes Closet.

After operating for more than three decades, the non-profit Clothes Closet was closed in June after they were evicted from the county-owned facility on Oakland Avenue. A letter from the county cited the facility's lack of soundness.

Clothing donations, including children’s clothing, are needed immediately, and RER will be the donation drop-off site for clothing. RER is located at 350 Tall Oaks Drive, Conyers, and donations can be accepted Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.  For opportunities to donate furniture and household commodities, please contact Tracy Lewis with Growing Discovery Ministries at 770-927-5197.

All individuals and families should be referred to RER for vouchers for the Clothes Closet program when the Clothes Closet opens in September.

Founded in 1967, Rockdale Emergency Relief is a non-profit organization that is supported by the Conyers-Rockdale County community and by the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. RER works closely with other service providers in the community. The Rockdale Community Food Bank merged with RER in 1999. There has been a significant rise in the need food, clothing and other resources over the past years.

To donate or volunteer, contact RER Executive Director Ashley Roesler at 770-922-0165 or email to rerashley@bellsouth.net. For opportunities to volunteer or to complete community service activities, contact Tracy Lewis at 770-927-5197. In addition visit RER’s website at www.rockdalecountyemergencyrelief.org for more information.
