Churches, Chamber, NAACP to mark MLK Day

Rockdale County residents will be coming together to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day with events and celebrations.

County Commissioner Oz Nesbitt, Sr. will serve as the keynote speaker at the seventh annual Martin Luther King. Jr. Commemoration organized jointly by the Rockdale County NAACP and the Rockdale/Conyers Chamber of Commerce on Jan 18.

The celebration breakfast will take place at 7:45 a.m. at the Longhorn Steakhouse on West Avenue.

"We’re expecting a huge crowd for this year’s celebration," said Fred Boscarino, President of the Rockdale/Conyers Chamber of Commerce. "We look forward to hearing (Commissioner Nesbitt’s) message. The public is invited to attend this important observance of Martin Luther King Day free of charge."

Several churches are also are also coming together for an ecumenical celebration in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., hosted at Springfield Baptist Church with St. Pius X, Epiphany Lutheran and St. Simon Episcopal Church on Jan. 17.
