A crash on Zingara Road killed a 6-year-old child and sent five adults to the hospital on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of West Hightower Trail and Zingara Road in north Rockdale County. A 1993 Mercury Villager was travelling north on Zingara Road before stopping at the intersection with West Hightower Trail.

After stopping, the minivan pulled out onto West Hightower Trail into the path of a 2004 Ford Explorer. The SUV was travelling eastbound on West Hightower Trail and was unable to avoid the collision.

The Mercury Villager was driven by a 52-year-old male, with his 28-year-old daughter and 6-year-old grandson as passengers in the minivan.

The Ford Explorer was driven by a 16-year-old male, with his 74-year-old grandmother as a passenger.  All five occupants from both vehicles were injured in the accident.

The 6-year-old child was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained.

All other occupants were transported by ambulance to Atlanta area hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries, which do not appear to be life-threatening at this time.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.  However, it appears that charges may be pending against the 52-year-old male driver of the Mercury Villager.
