Rockdale residents will have a chance to plan for a new career, bolster their interviewing skills and even find work at a Career Expo coming to town this Friday.
The expo, organized by Rep. Hank Johnson's office and Rockdale County, will be held Friday at the Rockdale County Career Academy from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Rockdale County’s unemployment rate is hovering around 12 percent and DeKalb County is at 10.7 percent, so job seekers need any advantage they can get.
Participants will learn how to apply for available federal jobs, learn about Georgia’s Work Ready Program, the GI Bill and on-the-job training for veterans and special tips for the over-55 job seeker.
The agencies in attendance include but are not limited to the DeKalb County Police Department, Department of Labor, Clayton State University, Georgia Perimeter College, Federal Aviation Administration, Fort McPherson and Walton College.
There will also be counselors on hand to share information for résumé writing 101, and how to prepare for an interview and green jobs training opportunities. A special symposium will be offered for job seekers who have been incarcerated with information on how to re-enter the workforce.
Participants should bring multiple copies of their résumés and dress for success.
