Even with all the economic gloom in the headlines, flowers are one affordable and easy way that people can bring cheer, beauty and comfort into their lives and smiles to the faces of their loved ones. The business offers a wide variety of flowers from all over the world. Her shop covers any occasion, from weddings, to funerals, to births, to graduations, with arrangements personally designed by Dyer for any occasion.

"I can take a picture from the wall and put it in a vase," she said. But mostly, Dyer improvises new creative arrangements. When she makes wedding and bridal arrangements, she draws inspiration from the customers themselves. "I see you, every smile you make, every frown you make, and I create it."

Dyer had a long career in the corporate world in financial restructuring and was looking for something to retire to before she discovered her true talent. For years, she had done floral arrangements for her home and friends and family urged her to "Do your flowers," she said. But it finally hit home when she realized she had spent an entire day in the garden and completely lost track of time.

"When I start designing," she said, "It just comes. It just flows."

Dyer opened up shop in 2000 and has been in her current location for five years. Gloria's Floral is a family owned and operated business, consisting of herself, her daughter, Tanya, and several other employees.

Being a savvy business woman, Dyer recently began selling arrangements at discounted price. Instead of only offering the consumer arrangements in unique vases, for instance, she also offers them in a sleeve.

"It's about providing reasonable prices so that they can still enjoy things like flowers," said Dyer.
