Haven House respite home for developmentally disabled burglarized (Feb. 20, 2010)
Thieves robbed a local church earlier this week, making away with electronics and striking a blow to the storefront church and grassroots congregation.
The theft at Fellowship of Jesus Christ Church, located at 1581 Lester Road, reportedly occured sometime between Monday and Tuesday night. Pastor Michael Loyd came in Tuesday evening to prepare for the church's montly community speaker series only to discover the door to the youth room had been busted open.
All the electronics in the room, including a TV, CD player, refridgerator and microwave were taken.
The room, which was used for an education and recreation space, was also damaged and vandalized as the burglars had ripped wires out of the walls and ceiling.
Loyd figures at least two suspects must have been involved as the TV was too heavy to move alone.
"It doesn't make any sense," he said.
"It's bad that you come to a church for help and then turn around and rob the same place you're getting help from. It's not just my church, it's any church that's hit," said Loyd.
