Grass fires were reportedly spotted along I-20 between the Salem Road and Almon Road exits, on the eastbound side of the highway.

Although the fires were quickly put out, traffic backed up on the eastbound lane temporarily.

Newton, Rockdale and DeKalb firefighters dealt with at least eight separate grass fires along I-20 today. The string of fires started in DeKalb County on other side of Turner Hill. Six fires were in Rockdale, two in Newton County.

"There was a report of a slow moving car emitting sparks on the expressway," said Phil Norton, Rockdale County Fire Marshal, "That very well could explain it." He noted that brush fire start easily with the current dry weather.
