It seems everywhere you turn these days there are warnings and directives saying to save the environment for the children.
Well, in Rockdale County the children themselves are getting involved as The Barksdale Boys and Girls Club of Rockdale County partnered with the Atlanta Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce in an effort to go green.
“They’re going to help us with go green projects,” said Erly Saldano, Director of The Barksdale Boys and Girls Club. “We’re looking at ways to explore being more energy efficient.”
The Boys and Girls Club has so far brought in recycling receptacles for plastics and cans and had an energy audit done.
The partnership with the Atlanta Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce kicked off last Wednesday with a presentation and ceremonial kickoff.
“It’s important we show the kids how to be more environmentally friendly, and to educate them as well as their parents,” Saldano said. “If they can learn to be more energy efficient, they can help save money, on their utility bills. It’s another good thing we would like to offer here.”
The partnership will also help both the Boys and Girls Club and Rockdale County in the future, spurring bigger projects and eventually finding its way into the economy.
“We’re hopefully going to move onto bigger projects,” Saldano. That may take more time, because of their charge with solicit.”
