A gala for good

LaVie Spa and Salon raised more than $12,000 for the Project ReNeWal domestic violence shelter at their second annual Autumn of Hope gala, “Automne L’Espoir,” on Oct. 20 at Villa Serena in north Rockdale. The evening included fine food, a silent and live auction and inspiring speakers. Project ReNeWal executive director Vickie Stevenson said, “It was a great night and we had lots of fun! The shelter is very, very happy! We are very appreciative to Amy and Ken Elias and Nancy and Denton Smith for their tireless efforts to help us!” The shelter is the only local domestic violence shelter. Recently, a sprinkler malfunction dumped 18,000 gallons of water on the facility. All of the shelter’s donated supplies were ruined with mold and water. The two-story building had to be gutted.
