Local to perform for His glory concert

Scarlett Temple, of Social Circle, is looking forward to sharing with others her personal testimony and calling to serve the Lord through her music ministry.

Temple is a first-grade teacher and is going on 22 years of teaching within the Newton County School System. With only nine years away from retiring, Temple doesn't feel like God has called her away from teaching to sing full time but she did feel like God spoke to her last April 2011 to expand her music ministry.

Temple describes the songs she sings as being of the southern gospel genre and as "more slow message songs. I don't compose or write my own songs but I sing the songs that I hear in my heart."

Temple grew up in the Grant Park area of Atlanta, but she recalls that she started singing when her family relocated to Newton County all those years ago. Temple joined the adult choir at Calvary Baptist church when she was just 12 years old. Although her current church home of 20 years is Mansfield Baptist, Temple's upcoming concert event at Calvary Baptist will bring her full circle to where she started attending church and singing as a child.

"My prayer is that people will hear my story and my songs and to be opened to God's call and know that he can use you no matter how old you are...and I just want people to know that God is still calling and he is using us if we just give him what we have," Temple said.

Temple's concert and 11-track CD of the same name, "for His glory" will take place at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday, July 15, at 6 p.m. Admission is free but there will be a love offering. "for His glory" CDs will also be available to purchase for $10.
