How far would you go to defend your faith? That's the central question in the new Christian film "God's Not Dead," debuting at 600 screens across the country this weekend, including Conyers Carmike Cinema Crossroads 16.

"God's Not Dead" opens Thursday at the Conyers Carmike Cinema Crossroads 16, 1536 Dogwood Dr., with a showing at 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. and will show through the week.

Peachtree Academy is holding a special viewing at the cinema on Sunday, March 23, 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.50 each, which includes popcorn and a drink. To purchase tickets for the special viewing, go to www.peachtreeacademy.com/gods-not-dead

College freshman and devout Christian Josh Wheaton (played by Shane Harper) finds his faith challenged on the first day of philosophy class when Professor Radisson (played by Kevin Sorbo) gives students an assignment to disavow, in writing, the existence of God or face a failing grade. Josh refuses and Radisson assigns him an alternative task: if Josh will not admit that "God Is Dead," he must prove God's existence by presenting well-researched, intellectual arguments and evidence over the course of the semester. If Josh fails to convince his classmates of God's existence, he will fail the course.

This PG-rated film is produced by Pure Flix Entertainment, a Christian film production company based in Scottsdale, Ariz., and distributed through Freestyle Releasing.

Russell Wolfe, CEO of Pure Flix Entertainment, said, based on the trailer's 4.8 million views and social medial numbers, interest in the film has outstripped other Christian films at this point before a release. "With over 1,100 requests from churches for group tickets, we attribute this interest to the film's topic as well as our outstanding cast," he said.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Kevin Sorbo ("Hercules: The Legendary Journeys"), Shane Harper ("High School Musical 2"), David A.R. White ("Six: The Mark Unleashed") and Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman"), with special appearances by Willie and Korie Robertson of "Duck Dynasty" and the band Newsboys, whose song inspired the film's name.

Rice Broocks, pastor of Bethel World Outreach in Brentwood, Tenn., is the author of the book "God's Not Dead" and said he believes the film may spark a movement. "'God's Not Dead' is a rallying cry for churches to equip and encourage believers to reach non-believers with the Gospel. It provides reasons to believe and confidence to take a stand for Christ in an increasingly secular society."
