Conyers First United Methodist Church and Conyers Presbyterian Church will hold a combined special Lenten worship service and luncheon starting at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 17. The service will be held in the sanctuary of Conyers First UMC located at 921 N. Main Street, Old Town Conyers. Dr. John Beyers, senior minister of Conyers First UMC and Rev. Tom Sparks of Conyers Presbyterian will both speak and share in the imposition of ashes. All residents are invited to attend.
Special music will accompany the service and a simple luncheon of soup, salad and bread will be provided in the fellowship hall following the service. Childcare is available from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All donations received will go to the Mission Committee.
The ashes used in the Ash Wednesday imposition are derived from burning the palm leaves saved from the previous years Palm Sunday, mixed with oil and applied to the forehead in the form of a cross. This discipline recognizes the person receiving the ash cross as a believer and also signifies the Lenten season sacrifices to honor the sacrifices of Jesus. The Lenten Season ends on Easter Sunday.
