Volunteer opportunity

If you have some time on your hands and you would like to help a child reach his or her full potential in life, the Washington Street Community Center needs your help.

The center has an excellent tutorial program Monday through Thursday afternoons between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

This is a great program that allows local teens and adults to become volunteers after they have a bit of training.

This is a great way for college-bound teens to build up the community service section of their résumés. It helps them be admitted to the college of their choice and helps children receive academic guidance and learn the value of reaching out to those in need.

For more information contact Bea Jackson, the executive director of the center, at (770) 786-4002/

Our Thoughts: Remembering Nancy VanKleeck

The Covington News would like to take a moment to remember Mrs. Nancy VanKleeck. We became acquainted with her a few years back while she was asking for information about the jail log. She had a ministry in which she would write letters to inmates telling them about Jesus. She was able to write over 11,000 letters. She was a true woman of character. We will miss her.
