We feel that over the last two years under the direction of Dr. Gary Mathews that our education system in Newton County has taken a progressive step forward. This has been a welcome occurrence not only for our parents but our business community as well. However, part of the new success we're seeing can be attributed to the administration of former school superintendant Dr. Steve Whatley.
Under Whatley the theme school concept was introduced in Newton County. A prime example that this vision has been successful is the Newton County Theme School at Ficquett.
The theme school is a great example of what parental involvement means to a school. The teachers feel empowered to teach better, discipline is inproved and a pride of accomplishment is felt by the students themselves.
If you are a parent who believes just like your grandparents did in the good old days that education is not just about the pupil, but also the teachers and parents, you might want to attend the informational open house Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The theme school is located at 2207 Williams Street. If you'd like to know more about it, you can call (770) 784-2959 for more information.
We are proud of the efforts of everyone involved with the Newton County Theme School at Ficquett. It is fast becoming the pride of our community.
