The upcoming holiday season

We read the other day that the big-box stores are already beginning their promotions for the holiday season. So, we suppose it’s OK to talk about the bright holiday season that Covington is going to experience this year.

Thanks to the efforts of the Main Street program and the city of Covington, the town square is going to be brighter than ever. And the next year will be brighter still.

The square will become a winter wonderland with new lights and decorations. That effort will no doubt bring more visitors to town to enjoy the holiday spirit, and those visitors can be expected to stop and do some shopping. This will benefit not only merchants on the square, but also the whole community.

With all this holiday excitement, old St. Nick has agreed to spend more time in Covington this year. In fact, he plans to spend time on the square every Saturday during the Christmas season.

This should ensure that parents will bring their children downtown — another great boost for local merchants.

Santa didn’t say if he would bring his reindeer. We will just have to wait and see.

Our Thoughts: Remembering Nancy VanKleeck

The Covington News would like to take a moment to remember Mrs. Nancy VanKleeck. We became acquainted with her a few years back while she was asking for information about the jail log. She had a ministry in which she would write letters to inmates telling them about Jesus. She was able to write over 11,000 letters. She was a true woman of character. We will miss her.
