Sign ordinance

One of the accomplishments of former Mayor Kim Carter's administration was the passage of an overhauled sign ordinance.

The ordinance was debated and passed and a very workable compromise was found to the blight of unmanaged signage that was popping up over the city.

If you haven't seen some of the hideous signs, both large and small, around you might be blind.

Now a question is arising over the way the city regulates temporary signs, which often promote events or sales. We find the current regulations to be fair for the majority of the businesses and nonprofits. For the council to call into question and try to recreate the proverbial wheel to satisfy a small minority of groups doesn't make sense.

The city council has many more pressing needs than beating this issue to death.
