Our thoughts...Save the Blue Willow

The Blue Willow Inn and Social Circle are synonymous with each other; without the Blue Willow we believe that the city of Social Circle would be no more than a spot on the map of Georgia.

Two years ago we attended a ribbon cutting for the Blue Willow Village, which is located directly behind the famed inn.

We thought at that time this new retail village, the dream of proprietor Louis Van Dyke and his family, would spark renewed interest in shopping in Social Circle and would be the first of a wave of new business interests to start up and fuel the growth of the city.

Unfortunately for Van Dyke, the bottom fell out of the economy just as the ribbon was being cut.

This week there is a possibility that the Blue Willow Village will revert to the ownership of the banks that loaned Van Dyke the money to build his dream.

Louis is a fighter and he still holds faith that he can work something out to save his dream.

We would suggest that the city of Social Circle step in and help him with any means available.

It would be a disaster for the city to have these properties fall in to the hands of banks that have no concern about the future of Social Circle.

Louis we have faith in you - keep on fighting.
