Our Thoughts... Uniforms a good idea

Newton County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Whatley will make a recommendation to the school board on April 21 that students of Sharp Learning Center be required to wear uniforms. We couldn’t agree more with the superintendent’s recommendation and we urge the school board to pass it.

Parochial schools for years have understood the importance of taking fashion out of the learning process.

Now we can take that philosophy and apply it to the public school system, not only for the chance of increased learning capacity but also for reducing the cost involved in letting your child keep up with the latest fashions.

When you consider cost savings and a chance to concentrate more on studies, it’s a no-brainer.

We would even go a step further. We would like the Superintendent to consider recommending the same for the schools in the Newton County system that don’t already have uniforms.
