Our Thoughts: Stop cyber bullies

In last Sunday's paper there was an interesting and informative article dealing with cyber bullying, written by staff writer Amber Pittman.

The term applies to someone who uses social media or texting to attack another human being in the most verbal and vile ways. Usually these bullies cannot be traced.

This practice by sick individuals is especially degrading to adolescents who feel they have no way to defend themselves. Once these cyber bullies spread lies or half truths it is impossible not to leave a permanent scar on someone's life.

We encourage parents to monitor their children online. This is not an invasion of your child's rights; it is your duty as a parent to protect your child in any manner that you can.

Encourage your children to talk with you about this type of activity.

If you know this is going on, report it to our local police or to your school principal.

There are devices that you can purchase that will track cyber bullies down. In future issues we will tell you how and where you can find these devices.

Cyber Bullying is a serious crime that involves faceless cowards.

As a parent you can do something about it; you just need to be involved in your child's everyday activities.
