Our thoughts... Credit card fees

The city of Covington is considering dropping the credit card fee that it currently charges its customers who pay their bills with plastic instead of cash or checks.

This would be a positive move by the city at this time; we support their efforts to negotiate with the credit card companies to give the city a better deal.

We now live in an age where writing a paper check is almost a practice of the past.

For years, banks have abused the American public by charging them to use their plastic to get their own money. Our local government does not need to do the same to its customer: the local taxpayer.

The truth of the matter is, it is more economical and safe for people to pay their bills online or by credit card.

We urge the city council to eliminate these charges as soon as possible.
