We have had so much movie and TV activity going on downtown that most people probably thought that all the police that were out in force on Thursday were part of some script.
The fact was the bad guys were in town at the Newton County Judicial Center and our good guys were out in force to make sure no shenanigans happened.
Apparently, local police were alerted to the fact that some type of interruptive mischief was to take place while defendants in the Andrew Nichols murder and their lawyers were presenting motions to suppress statements and evidence before Superior Court Judge Samuel Ozburn.
We were comforted to see our officers out in force, although the threats turned out to be bogus. All that happened was that a couple of people who ventured near the courthouse were arrested for outstanding warrants.
This turned out, though, to be a good training exercise for local law enforcement officials. The more real-life training that they receive only makes our community a safer place to live and work.
