The Covington Lion's Club did another fantastic job this year organizing the annual Christmas Parade in downtown Covington, which took place Saturday.

We were also delighted to see hundreds of Newton County residents in attendance for this fun, festive event. If you weren't there, you can see some pictures of the event on the front page and on Page 3B and Page 4B.

We would like to thank Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit us so soon before Christmas.

Of course, a parade is only as good as the floats and attractions marching down the street, so we'd also like to thank our local organizations that took part in the parade. It's always great to see so many people reaching out to make the community a livelier place.

Also in keeping with the spirit of community around Christmastime, our canned food drive is still ongoing. As always, we will be happy to run the names of anyone who brings in a donation, no matter how large or small.
