Managing change

Major changes are coming to Oxford this summer as the city changes its form of government.

Beginning July 1, the city will switch to a city manager form of government and will change to a fiscal year that runs from July 1 through June 30.

Police Chief Clark Miller has been tabbed to serve as the city's first manager.

The city under the direction of Mayor Jerry Roseberry has made some wise decisions recently, but with all the complexities involved with running governments these days, switching to a full-time city manager to handle everyday affairs is a wise and bold move for a city the size of Oxford to make.

We also believe the city made a good choice in appointing Miller.

He is a good guy, and we believe he will serve the city well.
