Lights shine in Social Circle

The streets are a bit brighter at night in Social Circle.
That's because of some local luminaries who have given of themselves to the community and have in turn been honored by the city for their efforts.

The city has honored its own through the Guiding Lights Program, part of Social Circle Better Hometown. Streetlights were dedicated in their honor, with plaques noting their contributions to the community.

It was a fitting and fine way to honor the recipients: Mary Jo Dally Whitley, Billie and Louis Van Dyke, David C. and Betty Jo Terry, Grady P. Lemonds, Anne S. Peppers, Mabel and Bob Standridge and John T. Burks.

The recipients had made a variety of contributions to the community, from powering its economic engines to helping to preserve its history.

They were honored Sunday in an event at the Blue Willow Inn.

Hats off to the Guiding Lights, and kudos to the city for taking time to honor its own.
