We have watched for years as different councils and mayors have talked about developing Legion Field into a community center that included an entertainment center and a park.

We are pleased that this council and Mayor Ronnie Johnston are moving forward with positive ideas and plans to see that Legion Field is developed.

What we are particularly pleased with is the fact that they are floating the idea for the public to support it with their donations.

It is relatively easy to support such a project with tax money, if it is available. But it is entirely more worthwhile for the public to have a major buy into its own facility.

There would be, for sure, more pride involved.

We would like to see the city council appoint a committee with a chair that has a proven record of getting things done.

That committee could set the fundraising parameters that would include many of the industries located in the community who have benefited from tax breaks and other amenities.

A developed Legion Field would be a plus for future relocation of people and businesses to our community.
