Memorial Day weekend is traditionally seen by many as the kickoff to the summer season.

There are many parties and family get-togethers planned.

A great number of these parties and celebrations will include alcoholic beverages.

We would like to remind you to use moderation in your celebration and, even better, have a designated driver on hand to ensure no one takes an unnecessary risk.
We urge and encourage folks who own and operate bars to be diligent in ensuring that their patrons don't overindulge.

Sadly, in many newspaper editions we publish, there are examples of what happens when people have one or several too many drinks.

Driving while intoxicated can ruin lives, including your own.

It can cause pain that will never completely go away.
Even if the above arguments don't sway you, know that law enforcement agencies have said they'll be out in force this weekend. The law gives no mercy to those who needlessly endanger others by their selfish and wrong decisions.
