On Thursday night, Halloween night, the Covington square was filled with strange ghosts and goblins. They all seemed to be in miniature.
It was a time to feel safe downtown, as there were Supermen and Hulks and Iron Men all around. There also were some pretty princesses, scary witches and more than a few vampires.
This was the annual Scare on the Square, sponsored by Covington/Newton County’s Public Safety Team and the Main Street Program.
Thousands of children and their families enjoyed a safe night of trick-or-treating under the watchful eye of our city police.
We appreciate the fact that our police and fire departments are involved in our community. Events such as this one put a human face on their protection activities and help our little ones respect and trust in the authority that our law enforcement agencies represent.
Kudos to the Covington/Newton Public Safety Team for a job well done.
