Good News

We’ve got good news on the local business front. The Porterdale hydro plant, which was open and in operation for 80 years until it was closed last year, has been purchased a venture company run by Stephen Odom.

Odom’s company, which is currently Florida based, is called Vclear Recourses

Although this is still a venture project, Odom has moved to the county and intends to make the county his home base.

Odom said his plan for the plant could produce up to 10 million gallons of water on a 15,000 square foot footprint.

We wish Odom well on his ambitious project. If he succeeds, he will not only produce more of our most valuable commodity — fresh water — but he will also provide viable jobs to a community that desperately needs them.

Our Thoughts: Remembering Nancy VanKleeck

The Covington News would like to take a moment to remember Mrs. Nancy VanKleeck. We became acquainted with her a few years back while she was asking for information about the jail log. She had a ministry in which she would write letters to inmates telling them about Jesus. She was able to write over 11,000 letters. She was a true woman of character. We will miss her.
