Our friends at First Presbyterian Church of Covington have given a great gift to the city.

Volunteers with the church led an effort to create a community park at Clark and Brown streets next to the Newton County Visitors Center.

The park was dedicated Wednesday and offers a bit of an oasis on what had been a blighted site, the vacant lot that once was home to the Community Food Pantry.

There's a mural there, courtesy of Oxford College students, and a nice bit of landscaping, offering a perfect place to while away a pleasant moment or two.
Kudos to all the helpers, especially to Gene Wallace, the project coordinator.

Thanks so much for this small jewel that makes downtown that much more special.
