Change in Charter

The Social Circle city council is considering a change in its charter. That change would involve placing the control of the Public Safety Director under the jurisdiction of the council and not the city manager.

We think this is a very bad idea.

Social Circle has a city manager government; if the council is not happy with his performance, then they should find somebody else to put in that position. Gutting the responsibilities of the city manager is not the solution.

As far as we are concerned, it is never smart to have a group of non-professional politicians trying to directly manage the affairs of public safety.
