Our local lawmen were busy this weekend putting a major illicit drug business out of commission in Newton County.

A grow house operation was taken down earlier in the week when police found more than 1,000 marijuana plants on a south Newton County property. Police estimated that the grow house was generating $8 million a month in business.

That's a lot of pot.

Two people have been arrested and the investigation continues as officers seek the property owners and others involved.

Kudos to the Newton County Sheriff's Office and its Crime Suppression Unit for a job well done.

Our Thoughts: Remembering Nancy VanKleeck

The Covington News would like to take a moment to remember Mrs. Nancy VanKleeck. We became acquainted with her a few years back while she was asking for information about the jail log. She had a ministry in which she would write letters to inmates telling them about Jesus. She was able to write over 11,000 letters. She was a true woman of character. We will miss her.
