Tonight the Newton County Historical Committee on Black Heritage will honor a gracious Covington lady, Janet Goodman, who has devoted her life to serving her community.
Currently a city councilwoman, Goodman showed she had spunk and courage as she played an active role in the Civil Rights era in Covington. Her involvement in almost every major initiative that has helped Covington grow over the past 36 years has endeared her to many residents of the city.
Her many awards, as well as her community involvement, are detailed in our story at covnews.com.
We are also proud of the fact that Ms. Goodman was a member of our staff for many years.
Tonight’s event is being held to raise funds for a scholarship to be awarded to a deserving student in May of 2015.
Any time money can be raised to advance the education of young people in our community is a positive; the choice of Janet Goodman to kick off the program was an excellent one.
