There was much happening in the news this week. Here are some of our observations:
— It’s always good news to hear that a new business might be moving to town: Morris Ewing Jr, representing Ewing Southeast, has announced that a Cracker Barrel restaurant will be locating in Newton County, at the I-20 Exit 93 entrance to Covington. The restaurant will be located near the Hampton Inn, and the new tax base the restaurant will provide will be warmly welcomed.
— We are sorry to have library director Greg Heid leave the area. He recently announced that he would be heading out west to Des Moines Iowa. Heid has done an excellent job overseeing the growth of our library system. He is going to be missed, we wish him the best.
— We had two briefs this week both dealing with the sexual molestation of minors.
One of the persons accused was a stepfather and one was an uncle.
We did not run their names because of concerns for the safety and privacy of the children involved.
Both of these men are worst kind of perverts and have received a pass at this time in not having their names spelled out in the boldest of type.
Whenever we get the chance and it is proper to do so, we will give them their proper due.
