Marshall Music Minute: Big shows coming in Covington, Newborn and Porterdale
Placeholder Image

Well my word, these temperatures are dropping fast but fortunately we've got some great music this week to heat things up.

Things start off with Twisted Tuesday featuring David Morris, Johnny Hamby and Friends at Rustic Flair on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

It's another installment of this fun get-together on Floyd Street. The fire pit will be going and several heaters will be on site to keep things warm while roasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate while listening to some great music. Hamby and I are musical collaborators and he's one of the best around, and I've heard nothing but great things about Morris. They'll have some others playing with them and this should be a great night. Marci will have several sales going on and will be doing some raffles as well.

Hannah Martin performs at The Listening Room at Irish Bred Pub on Friday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m.

Martin is a singer/songwriter from Atlanta that has a very diverse sound that incorporates multiple genres. Her cover material showcases that mix and her original songs reflect that essence.

“Growing up in a family of artists with a love for music started a fire in me that I cannot explain,” Martin said. “But it is a fire that I want to share."

The Old School Music Show at the historic Newborn School House on Saturday Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. in Newborn.

It's the third Saturday of the month so it's time for Dennis Fincher's Old School Music Show down in lovely Newborn. This looks to be an absolutely epic show with a top notch lineup. Starting things off at 6 p.m. will be the Maloy Brothers Bluegrass Band, a group I wrote about a few months back as a featured artist. Next up will be Leon Scrub Walton and company featuring Steve Biggers. Headlining the show at 8 p.m. will be Benson and Leinweber with their incredible harmonies and musicianship. This promises to be a big night.

Marshall and Friends will be performing at The Listening Room at Irish Bred Pub on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m.

I'll be back at this venue hosting what will basically be a big jam session. Featured guests this time include Rebecca Bates, Johnny Hamby, Adriane Ivey, Ann McCart, and others. And to my fellow Covington artists and musicians; please join us! Hit me up on Facebook if you'd like to play or sit in on a couple of tunes. And I'm actually planning on maybe singing one or two including my crowd favorite — "Headin' to Flovilla." This should be a blast.

Matt Pippin Band performs at The Social House on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 9 p.m.

This looks to be a really cool show. Pippin, a former guitarist and harmony singer for Jason Aldean, has put together quite the band and will be bringing his talents up the lovely mill village from his home base in Juliette. With an appreciation for the classic country icons — Willie, Waylon, et al. — and a strong voice and instrumentation, I believe that this is going to be a righteous affair! This is also doubling as The Social House's Ugly Sweater Contest. Good times in Porterdale...
