The numbers are impressive.

In the past week we had 118 stories and items on what's happening in Newton County in the pages of The Covington News.

There were 93 images of folks, too, the good, such as a photo of the summer enrichment program at Bethlehem Baptist Church, and the not so good, such as the mug shots of folks arrested for various offenses in the county.

And while The News comes out in print three times a week, it's changing every day. So when news happens, we let you know, sending out email alerts and posting stories at Covnews.com.

If you're a regular visitor to our website, you were among the first to know about Porterdale raising its millage rate, cutting workers and adding furlough days, the guy arrested after he was found naked in his car in the Walmart parking lot, and that the Turner Lake Complex will be closed most Saturdays next year as the recreation commission tries to make ends meet.

You'll also have a chance at Covnews.com to check out some of our videos, including a clip on improving your golf game with a tip from The Oaks Course pro Andy Bowman, and to participate in our online polls.

This is great content, and we hope you don't miss out.

There are some changes coming Wednesday, though, in print and online.

On that day in print our redesign makes its debut. We hope it makes your paper a bit easier to read, and will give you more ways to interact with us.

Everyone will still have access to breaking news, legal advertisements, obituaries and some other items, but our columns and other premium content will be included in a print subscription to the newspaper.

And it's a great deal, too: A subscription to The Covington News costs just $4.28 a month. That translates to 14 cents a day for around-the-clock access to what's going on here in Newton County.

Some folks have balked at paying even that for online access to our content, but most understand that it's just not a sustainable business model to keep on giving away content and losing money in the process.

We love what we do, but there are bills to pay and groceries to buy. Like you, we can't work for free.

And like you, we want a good value for our money. That's what we give you and will continue to do so.
