Boon to business

SKC opened their new solar film plant in Covington on Tuesday. Our local elected officials and officials from the company participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony and factory tour.

If you missed the story, which appeared in Wednesday's edition of the paper, you can read it at www.covnews.com.
It's always great when new business partners come to the Newton County area. Financially it is a boon to our residents. Businesses provide jobs to local workers and help pump tax dollars and other spending into our markets. SKC, for instance, generates 624 direct and indirect jobs and paid $34 million in taxes last year.

These numbers will only continue to rise in the future as the company continues to grow.

Businesses like SKC are also great community partners. SKC has already announced it will donate to several local nonprofits, including the Miracle League, the College and Career Academy, Relay for Life, the Arts Association, the Covington Police Department and Operation Sandbox.

We wish SKC the best in their future endeavors, and hope someday to welcome other businesses like them to our Newton County family.
