Mr. Samuel Clyde Yancey, 75, of Covington, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018.

He was born in Augusta, Georgia, on Dec. 14, 1942, to William Harvey and Dorothy B. Yancey. Mr. Yancey grew up in Augusta and in the Kirkwood community of Atlanta. He graduated from Murphy High School and was a graduate of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.  Mr. Yancey owned and operated several businesses during his career and was a private investigator. He also worked for and retired from DeKalb County Solicitor’s Office at age 70 after he had worked as an investigator for 10 years.

Mr. Yancey enjoyed photography, gardening, playing the guitar and talking on the CB radio, and he was a true animal lover. He was a member of the Covington First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Yancey was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Judy Rogero.

Mr. Yancey is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Ann Yancey; his two sons, Jeff (Christal) Yancey, of Griffin, and Jody (Patti) Yancey, of Lynchburg, Virginia; his daughter, Jennifer Yancey Morganthall, of Covington; his grandchildren, Chris, Cameron, Taylor, Christian, Kelsey, Alex, Madison and Mallory; his great-grandchildren; Marissa and Cayden; his sister Margie Cash, of Cartersville, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

Memorial services for Mr. Yancey began at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Covington First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath and the Rev. Jan McCoy officiating.
