Ray Thompson of Oxford, passed away March 24, 2011, at the age of 51. Ray worked as a welder, for Hopi Contracting, for 27 years. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, in Covington. Ray loved hunting, fishing, traveling to the mountains, and watching Nascar. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe J. Thompson; sister, Becky Thompson; and his brother, Dwain Butler.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Jolea Thompson; son, Tyler Wilson Thompson; grandson, Trent Thompson, all of Covington; mother, Marilea Butler of Oxford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Darlene Butler of Monroe; Cain and Abbie Butler of Oxford; former wife, Patricia J. Thompson of Covington.

 

Funeral Services for Ray will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Charlie Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, March 25, from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Development Office, 1762 Clifton Rd., Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322.
