Mrs. Ona Ruth Loyd, of Covington, died January 19, 2010, at Westbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 97. Daughter of the late Andy Lundy English and Nannie Mae Lindsey English, she had been a resident of Newton County since 1929 and lived in the Oak Hill Community since 1935. Mrs. Loyd retired from Bibb Manufacturing after 35 years of service and was a member of Julia A. Porter Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Senior Saints. She was also a member of Cherokee Chapter AARP, West Newton Homemakers Club, and painted a portrait of the Last Supper, which hangs in Westbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Loyd was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, macramé, quilting, and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. Loyd. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Larry Walden of Covington; grandchildren, Robby and Kim Whitley, Chad Whitley, Denée and Steve Stapp all of Covington, Kevin Whitley of Grants Pass, OR; great-grandchildren, Brandon Stapp, Garrett Stapp, Kevin Gay, and Christopher Gay; sister, Joanne Derick of Pallmetto; brother, J. L. English of Alpharetta; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Loyd will be held on Saturday, January 23, 11:00 AM, at Julia A. Porter Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. James A. Moore and Doug Doster officiating, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, Friday, January 22, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Julia A.
